Michele Sparling

A native Cape Bretoner who now lives in Oakville, ON, Michele Sparling, a committed believer in family and youth engagement, has spent more than 15 years navigating the mental health system as a family member.  A strong advocate and speaker for mental health, she champions peer support, and is the originator of Shine Out! Shout Out! a community group that raises funds and awareness for youth mental health, specifically the Just Be You peer to peer mental health support for youth ages 15-25, which she founded. Michele’s efforts to understand the mental health system and champion change has seen her participate on Boards of not-for-profits at a regional and provincial level, as well as committees in health, education, and the community.

 

Following her business degree from Acadia University, Michele obtained her Master of Industrial Relations from University of Toronto.  Currently, she is a Partner at Innovative HR and brings her mental health knowledge into her business. She is a CMHA Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor, and is trained in Mental Health First Aid and ASIST.  In her spare time Michele plays hockey twice a week, and travels back to her homeland as often as she can.
