Timsle: An accountability network

Issues

Mental health problems often present in post-secondary students. Between the ages of 18 - 24, students often experience massive environmental changes as they transition into post-secondary education - oftentimes having to rebuild their social circles, and develop new ways of maintaining healthy, balanced academic, personal and social lives. Typically, students are not aware of the importance of mental health or how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness in themselves or others. This is made more difficult by stigmas associated with mental health.

Solutions

Timsle is a social accountability network and focused on health improvement. In order to help people build healthier, active lifestyles and avoid mental health disorders, we must help people make small positive changes to their routines. Unfortunately, those that struggle often can not see the problem, while their friends & family can. Timsle takes the focus off the struggle and frames it as a challenge for health improvement between them and someone who cares about their success.

Impact

1) To shift a patients focus from treating their illness to improving their health, being well, and being successful.

2) To provide a framework for support of friends, family and community groups around individuals improving their health, including stakeholders not typically associated with recovery (ex: a study group, a running club, financial planner, etc..)

3) To use technology to proactively identify and mitigate relapse of illness, and gain insight into the disorder's manifestation profile within the individual.
